Pole & Building Mounted Birdhouses

The back mounted birdhouses and birdfeeders are the Log Cabin, Dairy Barn, Adobe and Mission.

Using the two 2 1/2” screws on the top and bottom of the back, mount the birdhouse on a building, pole or tree 5' to 10' above ground level. Try to face the entrance hole away from the predominate weather.  We have mounted some of our birdhouses with the entrance 90 degree to the weather with no noticeable problems.

You will not need to open the "back mounted birdhouse" for mounting.  However, if you need to open it for any reason, just remove the 3 screws from the bottom and carefully lower the bottom away for the mounted house.

If you are going to mount the birdhouse on a tree and you do not want to use screws, you can use a small line (rope) or bungee type cord to hold it against the tree.  You'll have to use your own judgment.  We do not recommend hanging a birdhouses from a tree limb,  the wind and storms can really become a problem for the birds getting in and out of the birdhouse.

If you should desire to convert this birdhouse to a fence post mount, you will need to place 2 or 3 pilot holes in the bottom the the raised nest floor.  We suggest using 3 1/2" screws for mounting.  Remember to keep as many of the 3 drain holes open as possible when mounting on a post.

The way we figure the screw hole locations for bottom mounting is by drawing lines from corner to corner on top of the nest floor, then take a protractor to draw a 2 1/4" circle.  Where the circle crosses the diagonal lines in the back you place two of the pilot holes, and for the front pilot hole, we take a ruler and measure to the front of the circle 3 3/8" or you can  just eyeball it to center.

You might have to cut off the lower part of the back hanger if it gets in your way for mounting on top of a fence post.  The top of the fence post should be between 3" to 4" in diameter, otherwise you'll have problems getting all 3 screws into the top of the post or keeping the drain holes open.  If you can't keep all drain holes open, make sure the ones on the downside of the mounted birdhouse are open.  Seldom is a post top absolutely level.  The primary weather well determine where the downside will be on an unleveled post.
