Instructions for mounting birds feeders.

Mounting bird feeders on platforms, pole or wall, or hanging
are the three types of bird feeders that Birds Eye View makes.

Platform Mounted Bird Feeder

Our birdfeeders are designed to either sit on a platform; the adobe, country home or hay barn. Mounting on a pole or building is the log cabin home.

All birdfeeders should be placed near trees or bushes for the wild birds protection from other flying predators.  Yet not so close to the trees that squirrels can jump down onto the bird feeders.  Also the pole or building mounted bird feeder should not be mounted on a tree if cats or squirrels are a problem.   A pole or post can have a predator guard placed below the birdfeeder on the pole to prevent cats or squirrels from climbing up to the bird feeder. Note: we've seen one cat jump six feet from the ground.

The platform mounted birdfeeder should be mounted on a platform made of exterior plywood about 3 feet by 3 feed which is placed on top of a post at least six feet above ground.  The 3 x 3 foot sheet of plywood should also have a wood boarder all around the edge at least 2 to 4 inches high.  The type of platform for the birdfeeders are good squirrel guards by themselves, however a 24 inch tin guard is still recommended just under the platform on the post.

The adobe, country home and hay barn bird feeder have pre drilled holes on the corners for a firm mount to the top of the platform.  This will prevent wind and deer from knocking the birdfeeder off the platform.  Don't forget to weather proof the platform, but always use non-toxic sealers, stains or paints, and do the underside, too.

Hanging Mounted Bird Feeder

To hang the country home birdfeeder from a tree branch it can be done fairly easy.  Place an eye screw about 3/4" of an inch down directly under the roof peak on the front and back of the bird feeder.  Next get some strong but thin wire about 18 inches long and securely attach one end to the front eye screw and then the other end to the back eye screw.

Routing the wire and balancing the bird feeder by lifting the right roof and hold the wire up while closing the roof again with the thin wire going between the right and left roof.  Next, take a large screw driver and rest the loop of wire on the middle of the screw drive shaft.  Now have someone move the birdfeeder until it balances level, then twist the screw drive several times until you have formed a loop on the wire.

Now install a wire on the tree branch to the birdfeeder. Be sure to use wire again, not rope, and make a long wire line that will attach to the tree limb and hang a good distance down 4+ feet with a hook on the end of it.  Make sure your hanging wire is easy to reach yet not close to any other branches.

Squirrels and cats can really jump down, but we have found them reluctant to make a 4 foot downward jump to the unstable top of our country home bird feeder.  They did when it was only 2 feet below the branch.  Now hang your birdfeeder.

Pole, Tree or Building Mounted Bird Feeder

As for the pole or building mounted bird feeder, the log cabin bird feeder, it is best to mount it on the side of a building, however, ours is mounted on a post about 5 feet above ground right outside our office window, so far so good and no predator guard.

One other mounting method is the telescoping pole, many are available on the internet.
