Niger Thistle Wild Bird Seed

Niger thistle seeds seems most popular for our finch. It is best to use Niger thistle seeds in a dedicated thistle seed feeder that accommodates the smaller wild birds.

Our Niger Bird Feeder Birds:

Pine Siskins
Goldfinch - American
Finch - House, Purple
Chickadee - Black-capped

Chicken Scratch is also a Good Wild Bird Feed.

Cracked corn and wheat, chicken scratch, is an excellent winter wild bird seed because corn gives quick energy and is low in protein and high in carbohydrates, and the wheat counter balances their diet because it is high in protein and low in carbohydrates. We use it year around.  The drawback of corn and wheat is they can attract rodents and will spoil fast in damp weather. We use chicken scratch primarily as a ground feed for mourning doves, juncos, towhees and the wild turkeys.

Our Ground Feeding Birds:

Wild Turkey
Sparrow - All
Catbird - Gray
Blackbird - All
Dove - Mourning
Towhee - Spotted
Junco - Dark-eyed
Grackle - Common
Cardinal - Northern
