Mounting Fence Post Birdhouses

The fence post mounted birdhouses are Country Home, Old Barn, and Hay barn.

Remove the 3 screws from the bottom of the birdhouse. Carefully remove the birdhouse from the bottom. Using the 3, 3 ½” screws inside, mount the bottom of the birdhouse on top of a post at least 5' to 10' above aground level. Try to keep at least 2 of the drain holes from being cover by the top of the post and face the entrance hole away from the predominate weather. Now, carefully place the birdhouse on the mounted bottom and screw the 3 screws back in place.

These post mount birdhouses can be modified to mount on a building or hung from a tree.

The building modification. You should use a 18" 2x2 or 2x4 piece of board.  Drill pilot holes in the back of the board 2 for mounting to the back of the birdhouse and 2 for mounting on whatever you choose.  Be sure to leave the vent hole in the back uncovered.  Now you can mount it to a building, etc.  You need the 1 1/2" thick wood on the back to allow for the roof overhang.

The hanging modification is easier if you use 2 eye screws, front and back, for getting a good balance (leveling).  Place the eye screws about 1 7/8" in from the main roof overhang so you will be over the main birdhouse walls.  The barns may throw you off a little because of the peaked roof in front, just eyeball it.  Once you have the eye screws in use a wire or rope about 24" long attaching each end to one of the eye screws.  Using a screw driver for leveling the birdhouse is best with wire.

Once you find level, just twist the screw drive 2 or 3 times to create a loop at the center point.  You will have to attach another wire or rope to whatever you what to hang your birdhouse from with a hook arrangement on the bottom of that line.

Now all you have to do is slip the balancing loop you made over the hook and you've got a hanging birdhouse.  These birdhouses are heavier than most so we don't suggest hanging them unless you are using good materials that will support the weight and any winds in your area.
