Bird Watching Blogs and ForumsWhat is the main differences between Blogs and Forums for bird watching? First, I had to look this up because I didn't know, being the recluse I am. Here's my take on all this, and I think I could get involved, I'm got a lot of questions about bird watching I still haven't found satisfactory answers to yet. The bird watching blogs are the hot ones today. Blogs seem to more like a simple home page where other people may make comments, without a blog monitor. Also, it sounds like one blogger can delete another blogger's comment they don't like. Blogs seem to be for an extensive thought or idea, therefore, long comments work better on bird watching blogs. Some bird watching blogs may not show the comments by others. Bird watching forums are more like a discussion group between several people. However, in forums, there could be thousands of people posting topic messages and/or adding comments to the initial comment or subsequent comments, with a house (forum) monitor watching over the forum. Sounds like a good job for my wife. A blog (an abridgment of the term web log) is a website, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog. An Internet forum is a web application for holding discussions and posting user-generated content. Internet forums are also commonly referred to as Web forums, message boards, discussion boards, (electronic) discussion groups, discussion forums, bulletin boards, for a (the Latin plural) or simply forums. Here's the basic pros and cons of both forums and blogs. A blogs usually has only one or just a few approved posters, however, some blogs may allow comments. Whereas in a forum, everyone can post a topic or comment on another topic, but forums have moderators to control unseemly comments or subjects unrelated the forums purpose. The good news is, bird watching forums or blogs are starting to look and work very similar, taking the best of each and combining them. We've come a long ways from the old message boards. When looking for a bird watching forum or bird watching blog, just use your favorite search engine. Another area you may want to consider is a bird watching social network, common people with a common interest that covers most everything a bird watcher may be interest in, some even include a forum or blog. The birdpost.com is the only one I found for bird watching social network. Note: the birdforum.net is one of the biggest; birdersworld.com has the best forum layout I've seen and much more, including a magazine; travelingbirder.com is very well organized for bird watchers traveling to foreign countries and birdingpal.org which also looks like a combination of bird watching social network, forums, and travel. Happy Bird Watching. |
