I have run across internet business consulting fees as high as $350.00 per hour in some of the larger firms that specialize in consulting larger small businesses, and some of them are very good, however, I have run across excellent consultants for the smaller small business and have reasonable rates.

All phone consultations are usually scheduled in advance with a minimum time and billed in 10 to 30 minute increments.

Most internet business consultants work on a retainer bases.  A retainer can run from $500.00 to $5000.00+, depending on the estimated size and duration of the project. Make sure that the retainer doesn't have a time limit on it and the balance is refundable. Finally, be sure to set up a billing and accountability for specific durations, such as; weekly, bimonthly, or monthly. When your retainer runs out, the project will more than likely be put on hold until another retainer is established.
